The following guides will help you to develop your work portfolio, the materials you need to apply for and work as an artist in the circus industry.

Your Portfolio should be a 3-ring binder (1 inch or thicker) that is set up to allow you to easily take a prospective employer through your skills, education and body of work. The portfolio is always a work in progress, and the original must be easily accessible to you at any time.

Your portfolio is divided into three sections, general information, skills and training information and performance history.

  • General Information
    • Resume
    • Cover Letter
    • 8 x 10 color glossy photo
    • Biographical Page
  • Skills Portfolio
    • Certifications, Diplomas and degrees
    • Syllabus and Self Training Guide or
    • List and description of circus skills and training
  • Performance Portfolio
    • One page for each performance you have taken part in
    • One page for each major act you have done on stage
    • Practice Journal (At least the last three month’s worth)
    • Demo Video

Each page of your portfolio is another opportunity for you to sell your body of work to your prospective employer. As such, your portfolio should be clean and well organized.
